Prof Dr Hermann Reinhard Alker emerged as the winner of the university's internal competition. The stadium's grandstand building, which has been
of the stadium (built between 1927 and 1930) offers 800 covered seats. The 11 metre wide cantilevered grandstand roof is supported by a reinforced concrete structure that was innovative at the time. Beneath the stands is a sports hall with tapering pointed arches that give the space an almost sacred character. The building was extensively renovated between 1993 and 1995.
