The Badische Landesbibliothek is a universal academic library, a regional library for Baden-Württemberg, a lending library for the population of Karlsruhe and the surrounding area as well as for the administrative districts of Karlsruhe and Freiburg, and provides supporting literature for the University of Karlsruhe and other local universities.
With a history spanning 500 years, the Badische Landesbibliothek has a rich collection of manuscripts, music, autographs, bequests, incunabula, old prints, and maps. The 13th-century manuscript C of the Nibelungenlied, which it holds in its collection, is registered as one of the most important cultural assets of humanity in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register.
