Bibliothek des Badischen Landesmuseums
The library of the Baden State Museum is one of the largest publicly accessible museum libraries in Germany. Today's art and cultural history library has developed from the collecting activities of the margraves of Baden, particularly under Karl Friedrich (1728-1811), who added a separate building to the palace for the library, the coin cabinet and other collections.
The collection of currently more than 93,000 volumes includes monographs, catalogues and small publications as well as audiovisual and electronic media. In addition, there are over 950 periodicals, of which around 250 are held on an ongoing basis.
The collection focuses on literature on prehistory and early history, antiquity, numismatics, sculpture, decorative arts, folklore, cultural history as well as exhibition, collection and art trade catalogues from all over the world.
The collection is indexed via an alphabetical card catalogue and an online catalogue (OPAC). All new acquisitions since December 2000 as well as the already processed parts of the old stock are recorded in the OPAC. The library is a reference library; direct loans are not possible.
