With over 411,000 media units, the library of the Federal Court of Justice is the largest court library in Germany. It also includes the branch library of the 5th and 6th Criminal Senate in Leipzig; it is also responsible for the library of the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office.
In 2003, the library moved into a prestigious new building in which the media holdings are spread over four floors in a systematic open access arrangement. The cataloguing and indexing of media from the year 2000 onwards is based on the Regensburg Union Classification, a cooperatively maintained system with over one hundred user libraries.
In line with a consistent focus on the needs of this user group, it catalogues not only books and journals, but also relevant articles from journals and anthologies.
The library of the Federal Court of Justice primarily serves members of the court and the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office as well as lawyers admitted to the Federal Court of Justice. It is open to this group of users at all times. The library is also open to external users during office hours (Monday to Thursday from 8.30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday until 2 p.m.).
