KunsthalleKarlsruhe@ZKM
Since April 2023, the highlights of the Staatliche Kunsthalle Karlsruhe's collection have been on display in the "KunsthalleKarlsruhe@ZKM" exhibition at the Centre for Art and Media.
Beschreibung
Visible after the Kunsthalle closes in November 2021: the highlights of the Kunsthalle collection from the late Middle Ages to the present will be presented on around 2,000 square metres - a cross-section of the collection with works by Matthias Grünewald, Cézanne and many other artists. The new context also offers the opportunity for a change of perspective: the familiar works will take on a new and different appearance in the ZKM galleries - designed by the exhibition architecture firm Merz+Merz.
The prologue is a filmic "threshold space" by Anna Henckel Donnersmarck. The multi-channel projection visualises the actual location of the art, the abandoned building on Hans-Thoma-Straße.
A high-ranking collection of early modern paintings, excerpts from a new photographic collection, a newly restored major work and rarely shown graphic works from the Kupferstichkabinett (Museum of Prints and Drawings) set new accents in the tour. The presentation is intended as a flexible discussion programme, to which the presentations in the Orangerie and the Junge Kunsthalle in Hans Thoma-Straße will be added in 2023.
The Staatliche Kunsthalle Karlsruhe sees itself as a mediator between the past, present and future, focusing not only on preserving the legacy of several centuries, but also on the current dialogue with the historical collection and its high-quality expansion.
