The palace, designed by Friedrich Weinbrenner, was built between 1803 and 1814 as a residence for the sons of Margrave Karl Friedrich from his second marriage to Countess Luise Karoline von Hochberg.
A Corinthian columned portico with a triangular gable is located in front of the central building facing Rondellplatz. Almost completely destroyed in the Second World War, only this central section of the building was rebuilt in the old style between 1960 and 1963, while the side wings were constructed in the post-war modernist style.
