The Schlossgartenbahn was built on the occasion of the Federal Garden Show in Karlsruhe in 1967. Initially operated by a private operator, the two-and-a-half kilometre long circular route was taken over by the public transport company in 1988. A diesel locomotive and four carriages are available for operation, as well as the "Greif" steam locomotive, which is used by a subcontractor. The railway carries around 50,000 passengers a year.
To mark the 50th anniversary of the Schlossgartenbahn, we had the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes. You can read about this in our blog post.
