Studium Generale. Forum Wissenschaft und Gesellschaft (FORUM)
Beschreibung
As part of a university of excellence, the FORUM contributes to overcoming social and global challenges, focusing on the dialogue between science and society.
The core theme of the FORUM, formerly ZAK | Centre for Applied Cultural Studies and Studium Generale, is the exchange between science and society in teaching, research and public events. This is because teaching and research at a university such as the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) potentially contributes to overcoming major social and global challenges. For this to succeed, it is important that science and society are in dialogue. The Studium Generale. Forum Science and Society (FORUM) is the central scientific organisation at KIT that
- interdisciplinary teaching (Studium Generale and additional qualifications) promotes competent and reflective action at the interfaces between science, technology and society;
- conducts social science research on the relationship between science and society and
- organises public events on issues relating to the relationship between science and society, which serve to promote exchange between students, researchers and the public.
In this way, the FORUM broadens the understanding of the interrelationships between science and society and of social debates on sustainable development. It thus makes a contribution to research, teaching and transfer at KIT.
