The library's entire collection is organised in an open and systematic way to enable users to search for literature directly on the shelf. Computer workstations are available for viewing digital data carriers and accessing online databases and the Internet. The library also looks after several archives and estates owned by the ZKM and the HfG.

The library has a collection of around 90,000 books and digital

digital data carriers. In addition, around 100 magazines and

four daily newspapers by subscription.
