Christ Church Karlsruhe
The musical events at the Christ Church Karlsruhe under the direction of cantor Peter Gortner, organist Carsten Wiebusch and the Christ Church team are presented here. Various ensembles at the Christ Church Karlsruhe come together here: the Christ Church Chamber Choir, the Karlsruhe Oratorio Choir at the Christ Church, Capella Carlsruhe, the Wind Choir at the Christ Church Karlsruhe and the Cantus Juvenum Karlsruhe e.V. singing school (whose girls' choirs are affiliated to the Christ Church).
A new old organ: the nationally important large Klais organ was renovated and extended in 2010. Since its inauguration in 2010, the organ built by Philipp Klais at the Christ Church Karlsruhe has attracted a great deal of international attention. It is the new concept that makes the organ so significant: the tonal core of the instrument is the old Klais organ from 1966, built by Hans-Gerd Klais, whose stops have been almost completely transferred to the new organ (a total of around 4,000 pipes) without changing their sound in the slightest or tearing them out of their original context.
The Protestant Christ Church in Karlsruhe was built between 1896 and 1900 according to a design by architects Robert Curjel and Karl Moser at Mühlburger Tor.
With its successful neo-Gothic elements, the church building itself is a special example of historicism. However, individual elements of the church interior, such as the lights in front of the church and, above all, the design of the rectory to the north, are also examples of Curjel and Moser's intensive involvement with Art Nouveau.
The church, which was consecrated in 1900, is also a prominent example of the "Wiesbaden Program", which radically changed the traditional church building style and favoured central buildings in particular.
