The Exotic House opened in June 2015 and is the second largest house of its kind in a German zoo after Gondwanaland at Leipzig Zoo.
Since May 2015, the Exotic House has gradually filled with life, first behind the scenes and then, from the beginning of June, in the large and small halls as well as in the aquariums, terrariums and paludariums.
With around 2000 animals in almost 100 species, the Exotic House now offers a wide varietyof different animals. The largest community is provided by the animals living freely in the large hall, such as the crowned pigeon, exotic songbirds, bats and the Seychelles giant tortoises. Visitors' favourites are definitely the two-toed sloths. All the animals are captive-bred, not wild-caught.
Some animalsalso live together in the terrariums and aquariums. The Seychelles giant tortoise, for example, has its own enclosure, as do the spectacled leaf-nosed tortoises, which live in their large bat cave.
