The dokKa festival, which is unique in Germany, focuses on documentaries. In contrast to conventional documentary film festivals
dokKa pays special attention to the diversity of documentaries. The combination of cinematic and acoustic works is a novelty in the German festival landscape and positions the Karlsruhe documentary festival as a pioneer, especially for experimental and new forms.a central aspect of the festival is the direct exchange with the directors and authors of the participating works, who come to Karlsruhe especially for the festival. Each selected documentary film has the opportunity to win the dokKa prize of 10,000 euros from the Ursula Blickle Foundation. Audio documentaries also have the chance to win the SWR dokKa prize.
In addition, up-and-coming films compete for the dokKa sponsorship award from the city of Karlsruhe. dokKa has also been awarding a research grant since 2021, made possible by the Ursula Blickle Foundation. This is aimed at artistic-documentary projects in the field of documentary film and audio documentary and supports the research of these projects with a one-off grant of up to 5,000 euros.the Kinemathek in the Kaiserpassage serves as the festival venue, while selected films are also presented in the Schauburg.
