At 72 metres, the district administration office is the tallest building in Karlsruhe city centre, built between 1961 and 1965 by architects Theodor Keller, Klaus Möckel (a student of Egon Eiermann) and Norbert Schmidt for Badenwerk AG.

This public building, with its air-conditioned 21 storeys and elegant aluminium curtain wall façade, adjoining long building and casino, is still an impressive example of the 'International Style' based on the North American model. From 2020/21, the listed building is to be demolished and replaced by a new building.
