The new Baden mint was built in 1826/27, begun by architect Friedrich Weinbrenner and continued by his pupil Friedrich Theodor Fischer after his death. It was the only monumental building by Weinbrenner to survive the Second World War almost undamaged.
The three-part centre section of the main building forms the end of Karlstraße to the north. During a major remodelling between 1976 and 1988, the Weinbrenner architecture was largely preserved, but the room concept was changed to accommodate new production processes. Remnants of the original decoration have been preserved in the building. The building is still used as a mint today, where German coins with the minting letter G are produced.
