Hermann Billing became nationally recognised with this synthesis of the arts of Art Nouveau. His concept of the ensemble character of the complex nevertheless shows a diversity of form, material and colour in the façades, windows, eaves, balcony railings, staircases and interior design that was unique in Karlsruhe.

Unfortunately, the monumental murals faded shortly afterwards. The destruction caused by the war also contributed to the fact that the former furious splendour can only be guessed at today.
